MODxI was really excited when @packtpub tweeted that they had a new MODx book ready for sale. For anyone who is unaware MODx is an Open Source PHP application framework that is incredibly well supported by it’s online community. Hopefully this will become a great resource for MODx developers. I just ordered it and will post a review once I have this in my hot little hands.

This book will get web developers up-and-running with MODx. With step-by-step examples and illustrative screenshots, you will be guided through installation, configuration, and customization. By the end of the book, you will have created a powerful, dynamic website by using the individual elements of MODx, without the need for programming know-how.

  • So, what's your thoughts on the book? It sounds like you really know your way around ModX. I've recently been looking at ModX to use for my clients. It seems like exactly what I've been looking for. The book looks like it might be a good place to start. I'd love to hear what you think!
  • I think the book is a great place to start, I wish it was available when I got started with MODx. The forums are invaluable: http://modxcms.com/forums/

There is also a great guide on Wayfinder here: http://www.gregorysmart.com/2009/05/02/modx-way...

Plan on spending some time with it, there are a lot of layers, but once you have it mastered it is the only tool out there that has no limitations on the front end design and can be molded to meet your needs on the backend. Look at using the ManagerManager snippet and Manager Access Permissions with Roles to tailor the backend experience for the end user.
