The PlanetFor anyone who doesn’t know, Pleth’s data center is The Planet. Our servers are in Dallas and we backup everything to Houston. Over the years we have developed a bit of a love hate relationship with their customer support department. Over the last two days there have been some network issues which have affected us for a grand total of about 30 minutes, but anyone that hosts knows that 30 minutes can seem like an eternity. This is especially true when you can’t connect to your servers at all and the data center telephone lines are coming up busy. All in all this scenario can turn a nice afternoon into a very stressful event.

Believe it or not I am writing this post in order to praise The Planet’s support during the past two days. Not only have they done a good job of communicating with their customers via Twitter (@theplanetdotcom) their CEO, Doug Erwin, recorded a message for their affected customers. I met Doug a couple of years ago at a conference and he has personally stepped in on our behalf during an incident a while back. From everything I have seen he is a stand-up guy. I think it is important to say that when it is warranted.

I think most of us accept that these things happen, I think all most of us ask is a little communication and consideration. In this instance, The Planet delivered.
