ModxOver the past few weeks I have been closely following the progress of the ManagerManager plugin as there have some issues with versioning as MODx has transitioned to it’s full 1.0-Evolution release. I haven’t personally experienced any of these issues, but became aware of them through the MODx Forums. As a result I have held off upgrading my sites that utilize the ManagerManger plugin until these compatibility issues have been resolved.

In the course of posts on this topic Ryan Thrash had suggested:

Now what would be cool however, is a dedicated chunk (or file) editor Module that listed the TVs and Templates with IDs next to an editing textarea.

Well, elastic obliged with a wonderful piece of code that creates a module and allows the ManagerManager rules to be controlled from within the module.

Based on my experience, the ManagerManager plugin is one of the most powerful MODx tools out there. It opens up all kinds of customization potential on the admin side of MODx. I am beginning to utilize it on almost all of my new projects. One of my past criticisms has been that the power of this plugin is really only accessible to more advanced MODx developers. This was secondary to the complexity of the plugin management. Now, through a series of tabs you can not only manage your rules from within the module, but can access the extensive documentation on the use of this plugin. This is definitely a step in the right direction. I for one would love to see this eventually incorporated as a core component of MODx.
