Great post Greg. I hope more MODx devs use this approach. You can learn so much from the guys at CI, Kohana, Symfony. I am really excited about seeing an app framework inside of the best CMS.

I've been doing this with Doctrine and Zend the past few months, and it makes heavy custom work much simpler. To be able to have a real framework with MVC + routing is soooo handy for heavy customizations.
